Alternative for Girls’
mission is to help homeless and high-risk girls and young
women grow strong, be safe, and make positive choices by
avoiding violence, teen pregnancy, and exploitation through
support, resources, and opportunities. Last year the shelter
provided intense services for 1,117 girls and helped 5,764
others through outreach contacts.

of Michigan, known internationally for pediatric
medicine, meets the physical and emotional needs of children
who have both common illnesses and rare diseases. They are
leader in research of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, genetic
childhood diseases, maternal and child nutrition, and known
for lobbying to protect the abused.

leaders. In doing so, nonprofits address critical organizational
and leadership development issues. DESC is also committed
to improving the graduation rate of Detroit Public Schools
students by providing unique educational opportunities through
volunteer business executive dialoguing programs.

provides families and seniors with emergency services and
helps develop affordable housing. They give needed food,
medicine, and temporary shelter along with empowerment programs
that promote self-sufficiency, economic independence, home
ownership, and financial management.

Walk to Cure Diabetes is the fastest growing fundraising
event for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation; an
organization committed to finding a cure for diabetes. JDRF
has contributed over $600 million to diabetes research since
1970 with 85% directed to research and education.
